                                                                     D o s a
A simple and humble not to forget healthy south Indian breakfast dish, there are so many varieties of them that if i start listing them here, this space would not be sufficient.. I already have a Dosa Corner page dedicated to them and here is one more addition to my collection… This time it is a dosa with the super healthy grain, wheat… This dosa is a very simple recipe with only 3 ingredients but very filling and yummy too..

As i was checking my pantry for leftover pulses and grains last week, i found a packet of wheat lying safely in an air tight container.. It was one of those “Bought and Forgot” items and i wanted to finish them off as soon as possible.. I was then reminded of wheat dosa which was always made at my hubbys place and i had never tried.. My usual recipe is Whole Wheat Paniyaram {Appo/ Unniappam} which is also one of my fav.. Nevertheless i asked for the recipe and was surprised to find it was a very easy recipe..

So i tried them last week and we really loved the texture and taste of this dosa.. Those who are looking for ways to add whole wheat in your diet, do try this and you will love it for sure.. I served it with homemade Curry Leaves Chutney Powder.. Adding a recipe for it too for those who are not aware..This powder is a yummy accompaniment to your dosas, idlis and meals.. Make it once and it will last more than a month…

Health Benefits of Whole Wheat: Since they are low in fat and high on fiber, they have been linked to reduce weight, the risks of stroke, type 2 diabetes, certain cancers and other health problems..
Substitute refined flour with whole wheat in your diet and see the positive health changes you will undergo…

RECIPE:

2 Cups Whole Wheat/ govu /gehu
2 Tbsp freshly grated coconut

Recipe:
1. Wash the whole wheat well with water, drain in a colander and keep for half an hour till the grains turn dry..
2. Add to a dry mixer and make a coarse powder of the grains..
3. While making dosas, add coconut and little water to the coarse powder and grind in a blender into a slightly coarse and thick batter…
4. Add salt and Mix well..
5. Heat a pan and add a ladle of batter on it.. Spread it into a slightly thick dosa..
6. Add oil on the sides.. Cover and cook for a minute on medium flame..
7. Flip and cook the other side for half a minute more..
Serve hot with chutney or Curry Leaves Chutney Powder..
For the Chutney Powder
1. Dry roast 3 fistful chana dal and make fine powder of it.. Keep aside..
2. Wash a fistful of curry leaves.. Dry them on a cloth and keep aside..
3. Heat oil in a pan.. Add  1/2 Cup shredded copra/dessicated coconut and fry till golden brown..
4. Add the curry leaves,6-8 red chillies, hing and fry for some more time..
5. Cool it and make fine powder along with a small lump of tamarind and salt..
6. Mix this powder with the chana dal powder…
Chutney Powder is Ready…
Note: You can store in a dry, air tight container on the counter and it will last for a month… You can also refrigerate it if you live in a hot country like me..

P.S: I did not take step by step pics of the chutney powder recipe as i had initially not planned to add this recipe here as it uses copra/dry coconut which is considered to be having ill effects on health..but since eating a Tbsp of this powder also means a dose of curry leaves which is abundant in nutrition, i thought i should add it.. Do try and you are sure to love it!!
