Tamatar ki Kadhi | Oil-free & Yogurt-free

                                          I am on a blogging spree and since i am so in the right mood {once-in-blue-moon}, quickly posting one more amazing recipe of Tamatar ki kadhi before i turn lazy again.. 😉 This is yet another super easy and delicious accompaniment to your rice meal.. I had found this quick recipe long back from the SK site and this has become a regular at our place when i am in no mood for elaborate cooking.. The catch of the recipe is of course that it is oil and yogurt free.. Sourness of the tomatoes in this kadhi easily replaces the yogurt and the oil is never missed, trust me…

                                          Anyhow these recipes come handy when i just feel like having rice and kadhi & nothing else with it.. Have you had days like that? The rice drenched {is that the right word??Ah,who cares?} in the piping hot kadhi is such a foodie delight that i can’t help but crave for it right now..

                                       And have i told you how much my hubby loved tomatoes {Yes as much as he hates potatoes! :D}.. Hence you can see that i have tried many varieties just with tomato like Instant Tomato Dosa , Rava Tomato Bath, Easiest Tomato SoupQuick Tomato PulaoMasala Tomato Rice and Tamatar Paneer… Ah, that reminds me of the tomato jam my mom used to make… So so yummy specially with the soft and lacy panpolos {neer dosa}.. Also her tomato juice which was a refreshing after school treat… Oh, how i miss them.. 
                                       Having said that, i am off to the recipe of this simple kadhi.. Do try and you will definitely love it! Happy and Healthy Cooking!

2 large Tomatoes {or 4 medium sized ones}
2 Tbsp Chickpea flour/ Besan/ Gram flour
1 tsp Red chilli powder {or to taste}
1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
1/2 tsp Cumin seeds/ Jeera
3 dry Red chillies, broken
5-6 Curry leaves
A pinch of Hing/ Asafoetida

1. Roughly chop the tomatoes, de-seed and puree in a mixer.. Keep aside..

2. In a deep bowl, add chickpea flour,red chilli powder,turmeric powder and salt..

3. Add the tomato puree and mix well free from lumps..
Note: A tip to get rid of the lumps easily is to add half of the puree first, mix well and then add the rest..Chickpea flour mixture gets lump-free quickly if less liquid is added while mixing..

4. Add around 1 Cup water and mix well..

5. Heat a deep pot and throw in mustard seeds and cumin seeds.. Let the mustard seeds splutter..

6. Add red chillies,curry leaves and hing.. Roast on medium flame for few seconds..

7. Pour in the tomato mixture and mix well with a ladle..

8. Allow it to come to a boil and then simmer for 10 mins or till the kadhi reaches desired consistency..

Enjoy piping hot tamatar ki kadhi with rice or Dal Khichdi !

Note: Two additional ingredients as per the original recipe are sugar and freshly chopped coriander leaves for garnish.. You can add around 1 tsp sugar towards the end if you feel the kadhi is sour beyond your liking.. Regarding coriander leaves, i simply overlooked it and by the time the kadhi was ready (hey,that rhymes!), we were so hungry that garnish was long forgotten {though i did not forget to garnish the rice! 😉 }
