Raw Banana Curry

There are some veggies which i don’t buy regularly and Raw Bananas happens to be one of them.. Even though i have read at many places that they can easily substitute potatoes as they are far more healthier, i just did not have the heart to do that (out of my love for potatoes!).. Some days back i came across a recipe by my friend, Vidya Nayak Shenoy (or Vidyakka as i call her) where she had made a yummy looking curry (actually looked like paneer butter masala to me!)… I was shocked to find it was made from raw bananas.. I read the recipe and it sounded very unique and easy… The catch of the curry was, her family who did not like raw bananas in curries had finished this one in a jiffy..

                          That was it!! I knew i had to try this curry… Even though i was excited to try out this new recipe, i was also scared regarding the outcome.. Little did i know that all my fears would vanish soon.. As soon as i finished with the curry, i had a quick taste test of how it had come out… I was simply blown off.. Had never imagined it to have such a yummy taste..

The curry takes the bananas to another level… The taste as i had thought earlier was similar to paneer butter masala with all the creamy richness from the cashew paste.. The bananas substitute paneer beautifully (Believe when it is coming from a Paneer fan!)..It is my request to all that you must definitely try this one as you will never forget its yummy taste… Thank you Vidyakka for this amazing recipe! RECIPE:

Ingredients:
3-4 Raw Bananas
1 Tbsp Oil
1 tsp Cumin seeds/Jeera
1 Onion
1 Tomato
1 inch Ginger piece
3 cloves of Garlic
3 Green Chillies
1/2 Tbsp powdered Jaggery
8-10 Cashews {Soaked in warm water for 10 mins and made paste in mixer using little water}
Salt to taste
Coriander Leaves for Garnish

Recipe:
1. Peel the skin of the bananas and chop them into bite size pieces.. Keep them soaked in clean water till use..

2. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds.. Allow them to change color..

3. Add finely chopped onions and fry till they turn translucent..

4. Add finely chopped tomatoes and fry till they turn mushy..

5. Make coarse paste of ginger,garlic and green chilies..
Note: You can also grate the ginger and garlic & finely chop the green chillies..

6. Add the paste to the gravy and fry well till the raw smell goes away..

7. Add the chopped bananas, little water & cover and cook till the bananas turn soft..

8. Add jaggery and salt and mix well..
9. Add cashew paste, lower the flame to medium and keep stirring continuously for 5 mins..

10. Remove from flame and garnish with coriander leaves..

Serve hot with Rice, Rotis or even Dosas!!
