Rava Bhakri/ Rullava Bhakri

Have you heard of bhakris? Maybe the ones with jowar, bajra or rice… Well this one is made from rava and if you are a konkani, it is not at all new to you… Rava Bhakri or rullava bhakri as we call it, is an age old konkani breakfast or evening snack recipe… I remember my grandmother making it for us during evenings and i loved eating this all by itself..

            Although the ingredients for this bhakri is same as for my Instant Cucumber Dosa, the method of preparation and the taste is entirely different… I personally love both! While the dosa is soft and slightly sweet with its cucumber flavor, this bhakri is slightly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside with an awesome flavor combining sweetness, sourness and spiciness…

I made this for breakfast today planning to add this to my healthy breakfast collection.. This is a very filling, healthy, tasty and very easy to make instant breakfast recipe.. So when there are so many wonderful plus factors in this bhakri, why wait? Just try this and you are sure to love it!

Health Benefits of Semolina: Made from durum wheat,keeps you full for a longer time and hence prevents overeating.. Improves Kidney function (due to its potassium content),Good source of vital vitamins E and B which are essential for good immunity from diseases..

RECIPE:

Ingredients:
1 Cup Semolina/Rava
1/2 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
3- 4 Tbsp Freshly grated Coconut
2 Tbsp powdered Jaggery
3 Green Chillies
1 inch piece of Ginger
1 Sprig Curry leaves
Salt to taste
1/2 Cup Buttermilk (Optional but gives a nice flavor)
Water as Required

Recipe:
1.Take rava and wheat flour in a bowl..

2.Add coconut,jaggery,green chillies,ginger and curry leaves..

3.Add salt, buttermilk and water to mix well to form a thick batter..
Note: The batter should be such that it should fall from the ladle..

4.Heat a pan with oil and drop a ladle full of batter on to the pan…
5.Using your fingers,shape it such that it is evenly spread..
Note: Apply water on your fingers if the batter is sticking to your fingers..Mine did not stick!

6.Cover and cook on medium flame till the top surface is cooked..

7.Flip and cook for a minute..

8.Remove from flame and serve hot with butter and/or enjoy it with pickle..
Note: You can also make this in another way as learned from my hubby’s home during our last vacation:
Skip the wheat flour, dilute the batter to dosa batter consistency and make super yummy and soft dosas out of it…. Comes out very delicious.. Do try this variation too!!
