Mishti Doi/ Sweetened Yogurt

Have some curdled milk lying there in your kitchen? Or have some extra milk to finish off? Even better, in a mood to pamper yourself with some dessert? If the answer to any of the above questions is a big Yes, then you have reached the right place.. I have just found a really easy recipe of a dessert which is so yummy that i am in lack of the right words to describe its yumminess.. What makes it even more better is that it is a very healthy dessert requiring only 3 ingredients and some nuts for garnishing..

I had found this recipe from one of my dear friends, Sandhya Puranik, when she had posted in a food group in facebook for dessert theme.. I was highly impressed with her click and could not resist reading the recipe.. The recipe just amazed me as it was one of the easiest recipes i had ever heard… Was so excited to have found that such easy recipes do exist (made esp for lazy souls like me, i guess!)..

Even though her recipe was using fresh milk and then curdling it, i was ‘lucky’ enough that my milk was already curdled due to my neglecting it for over a week because of my cold.. So i got the perfect opportunity to try it out… Even with my apprehensions in mind, i still went ahead and tried it out and it came out really good..

Since i have never tasted it before, i have no idea of the original taste but i can say one thing that if my novel attempt came this good, then with more attempts, it might turn even better.. We just enjoyed this yummy treat to the core… When i had the first spoon of this dessert, i felt as though i am eating a thin version of Rasmalai (Yum!)..So, if you are a lover for bengali sweets, this one is a must must try..

As i write this recipe, i am having some curdled milk again in my fridge (All thanx to Mr Cold who visited us yet again!).. So i am planning to make it again tomorrow… How about you?

2 Cups Milk (Fresh/ Curdled)
1 Block/ approx 1/2 Cup Jaggery
2 Tbsp Curd/Yogurt
Dry Fruits/ Nuts of your choice for garnish (I used Pistachios)

1. Boil Milk and reduce a little.. Keep aside to cool till lukewarm..

2. Melt Jaggery in little water in another vessel.. Strain it..

3. Add the melted jaggery and curds to the LUKEWARM milk and mix well..
Note: Remember that the milk should neither be too hot nor cold, it should be lukewarm for the fermentation to occur..

4. Keep it in a warm place overnight or for 8 hours..

5. Chill it by keeping in fridge for 3-4 hours..

6. Garnish with chopped nuts and serve chilled..
Note: This recipe is authentically made in clay pots which gives it the perfect texture.. Since i don’t have it, i prepared in a normal vessel but still came out really yummy…
