Instant Bread Pakoda Toast | Kerala style | Under 10 min Snack



                                 Let me confess.. The oily, super unhealthy and god-knows-whats-been-added bread fries that we get in the small tea shops across Kerala have been my favorite always.. I still remember my dad bringing them for me as occasional treats and i used to have them slowly enjoying every bite.. These delicious memories also haunted me the most during my pregnancy and i have hogged them like anything during my last trimester when i was at my parents place (ssshhhh… its a secret.. had promised hubby that i wont eat anything unhealthy but preggy cravings are impossible to resist, right?? Lol.. Pregnancy period was wonderful!! Never thought i would actually miss it..)
                                 But now i really wish i had known this Instant Bread Pakoda Toast recipe earlier.. Would have saved me some few grams of weight gain for sure.. This recipe has so many highlights.. Apart from being healthy, this one is super quick to make (not more than 10 mins) and very tasty..

I found this recipe idea from fb long back when someone had posted pan fried bread pakodas.. The idea of toasting instead of deep frying reminded me of my old recipe of  Bread Onion Uthappam and i went ahead rekindling my taste buds from the Kerala style bread fry.. Never in my wildest dreams did i imagine it to turn so delicious in my very first attempt..My hubby too was all praises and made me promise that i would definitely make time to blog them soon.. So i made them again specially “for the blog” and here are the tasty pakodas..



                                        They look pretty too, don’t they?? (The blogger in me speaks.. 😉 ) So do try bread pakoda toast this weekend and enjoy a guilt free snack with your family..


RECIPE:

Ingredients: {Makes 2 toasts}
2 Bread slices
1/4 Cup Besan / Chickpea powder
2 Tbsp Rava / Semolina
1 Tbsp Sugar
2 tsp Red chilli powder
1 tsp Jeera / Cumin seeds
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
A pinch of Hing / Asafoetida
Salt to taste
2 Tbsp Yogurt / Curd (+ 1 Tbsp water if required) *

1 Tbsp Oil to toast the pakoda

*Yogurt can also be substituted with water

Recipe:
1. Take all the ingredients except yogurt and oil in a mixing bowl..

2. Add yogurt and mix everything well.. Add little water if required.. Keep aside..
Note: This is a thick batter but should fall off from spoon and be spreadable over the bread..

3. Heat oil in a pan and spread a spoonful of batter evenly over the bread..

4. Place it inverted over the pan on MEDIUM flame..
5. Apply a spoonful of batter on the opposite side as well..
Note: I have kept 2 toasts as i had space in the pan..

6. When the bottom portion is fried till golden brown, flip and cook the top portion too..

Serve hot with ketchup or enjoy as it is..
