Cherry Jaggery Compote | 3 Ingredient easy recipe

I have been busy these days with my little girl who constantly needs my attention all day. The only free time I get is when she sleeps at night and by then, my energy would have drained as well. Blogging takes a backseat then. That’s when the husband comes in (as always!) asking the updates on the next blog post which turns me into a night owl and I start penning down. So here’s presenting the latest recipe that we tried and absolutely fell in love with – Cherry Jaggery Compote or in simple words, Chunky Cherry Jam with Jaggery instead of refined sugar.

We are getting cherries quite cheap nowadays and after reading about the health benefits, I bought a whole box of them. Miss A also loved it initially and would gobble a handful each day. But then, on one fine morning, she no longer liked them. So Mr Hubby suggested we make jam out of it.

Since we avoid refined sugar, Jaggery was the perfect choice. I also saw that the jam I was trying to make is actually called compote as it is chunky with pieces of cherry, different from the smooth jam texture. Also compote is a dessert in itself and not a spread.

And how amazing it came out! Jaggery never fails to surprise me as to how delicious it tastes and how it substitutes refined sugar so well. Lemon juice gave a wonderful tangy flavor to the compote. How about Miss A? She could not get enough of it. The compote got licked clean by the foodie duo of dad and daughter. Here is my husband off with the bowl of compote.

This recipe is very easy and with just 3 ingredients. You can substitute cherries with ripe tomatoes if cherries are not available at your place. They come out delicious too. Hope you all try and love it. Happy and healthy cooking!

  • Quantity of jaggery can be increased or decreased as per your taste buds.
  • Do not skip lemon juice as it gives a wonderful flavor.
  • You can substitute cherries with berries of your choice. I have a friend who even makes this with ripe tomatoes. Do not add lemon juice in that case.
  • Jaggery can be substituted with brown or cane sugar but jaggery does give the best flavor.
  • I am sorry for not having the step by step pictures from step 2 to step 5. My camera had a error and I lost those pictures. Will definitely update soon.
